Former railway station building with new timber windows and red front door

Station House

Sympathetic joinery replacement for a characterful period home, honouring its history at every detail

Originally a working railway station, this building has been thoughtfully converted into a private residence, one rich in character, history, and architectural detail. Projects like this demand a careful and considered approach: new joinery must sit comfortably alongside the existing fabric of the building without interrupting it.

The brief was to replace the existing timber windows and front door. On a historic building of this character, replacements cannot simply feel new. Every detail, from proportions and moulding profiles to spray colour and ironmongery, had to feel as though it had always belonged to the structure.

Working closely with the client, we designed and hand-built each Accoya timber window and the front door in our Haverhill workshop. Accoya was specified for its outstanding dimensional stability and long-term performance, qualities particularly important in a period property where consistent, low-maintenance joinery is essential. Custom moulding profiles were developed to reflect the period character of the original building, while ironmongery was carefully selected to complement the aesthetic without appearing overly decorative.

The spray finish was chosen with care to unify the new joinery with the existing fabric of the property, both internally and externally, allowing the new elements to settle naturally into their surroundings.

The result is joinery that earns its place quietly and confidently, sitting within the building as though it has always been there.
